The History

The Beginning

My Grandfather (Keith Weese) and My Grand neighbour (Teddy Wagar) teamed up in the 1960's. Together they constructed a sugar shack, hung around 400 buckets and produced around 100 Gallons of Syrup Annually.

My Father (Murray Weese) and other family members continued with the tradition until 1985, the year after Keith's passing.

The Ages

The bush lay quiet until 1996 when Murray dusted off the old equipment. Now having young children himself, He drilled a few holes and made some Syrup. Without knowing it, he was keeping the spark alive.

These are among some of my earliest memories.

The Rebirth

That spark is once again turning into a flame.

With 3 children of my own and 3 nieces/nephew right next door, the family decided to give it a go in 2026.

"All hands on deck" with friends and more family joining the effort.

It's not about the syrup.

The Name

Our family farm is located on the north shore of a shallow lake in the township of Stone Mills.

In 1998 the name was changed from "Mud Lake" to "Camden Lake"

The name change came after the amalgamation of the village of Newburgh, township of Camden and the township of Sheffield.

All of the trees we tap were rooted before 1998.

Therefore "Mud Lake" Maple seems more fitting.
