Learn to Play Lucre
Setup
The game begins with selecting the following cards from
a standard deck. 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s (24 cards)
Conveniently, these are the same cards that are not used in a standard Euchre deck.
Next, establish the number of players.
If there are more than 4 players, add another deck, and duplicate the required cards.
Deal an even amount of cards to each player. Any remaining cards go face up
into a discard pile located in the centre-left of playing board.
Gather the two dice from the dice slots.
Objective
The object of the game is to be the first player to discard all of their cards into the discard pile.
In order to discard, a player must correctly bet on the outcome of their dice roll.
The Dice - This game uses two special dice.
Numbers Die
Suits Die
Who goes first ?
Each player rolls the numbered die to determine who goes first. Highest roll goes first. Followed by the person on their left. A roll-off will be made between any tying parties.
Betting locations
There are 7 betting locations, each with their own limitations
“The Suits”
These 3 betting locations are located along the top and are labeled with a heart, diamond, club and a spade. Each of these indents may only hold a single card at a time and count as one bet.
“The Numbers”
These 3 betting locations are located along the bottom and are labeled with 2,3,4,6,7 and 8. Each of these indents may hold as many as 4 cards at a time and only count as one bet.
“Trump”
This is a special location which is labeled and can be found in the right-centre of the game board. One card per turn may be played face down in this location. (This does not count as a bet) This location can only be played when it contains at least one face down card. (See trump detail)
The bets
Before a player rolls they must place their bets. A maximum of three bets can be made each turn. A bet is made by placing a card face up on a betting location.
If a card is placed on the suits side (top). The player must roll the corresponding suit in order to discard that card into the discard pile.
Likewise if a bet is made on the numbers side (bottom). The player must roll that cards corresponding number in order to discard that card(s) into the discard pile.
All successful bets must be placed into the discard pile face up. If the outcome of a players roll does not match any of their bets, the cards in the betting locations are returned to that players hand. The player to their left will have the next turn.
Trump Detail
If a T is rolled that player must first play the outcome of the numbers die. Once all cards have been discarded this player must discard one card of their choice face down into the Trump pile. The suit of that card is now considered “Trump” (Tip)That player should be the only person who knows the suit of the face down card.
Trump Bet
This bet can be made by any player, as long as the discard pile contains a face down card. This bet must be used on their turn and does not count as a bet.
The object of this bet is to match the suit of the original face down card, But can be bluffed with any card.
The roller must give everyone an opportunity to call “bluff”
If no opponent calls “bluff” the player may roll their dice and proceed without consequence.
When “bluff” is called...
At this point all of the face down cards are exposed.
The original face down card and the most recent top card are to be noted.
If the suit of most recently played card does match that of the original face down card, the player who called bluff must pick up all of the cards in the trump pile.
If the suit of the most recently played card does not match that of the original face down card, the player who laid the most recent card must pick up all the cards in the trump pile.
At this point there is no trump until another “T” is rolled.
If a “T” is rolled again with a hidden trump card in play, the roller shall turn all cards face up and place them into the discard pile.
They may place one card from their hand face down into the Trump pile.
The suit of that card is now considered “Trump”
Exact rolls
An exact roll is an outcome of the dice that exactly matches any face up card on the board. (See Image)
This may be in a betting location or in the discard pile.
If a roll exactly matches a card in a betting location, all correct bets may be put into the discard pile.
The player who rolled the exact roll may now pass out all cards from the discard pile. Cards can be given separately, or to multiple players.
If a roll exactly matches the top (face up) card in the discard pile. That roller must:
First- pick up the entire discard pile
Second- discard any correct bets from betting locations.
This rule applies to a final card roll.
A player shall not win the game by rolling a “T”. If this roll is made the roller must roll again.
(See trump detail)
A roller shall not win the game by rolling an exact roll on the discard pile. (See exact roll)
A roller shall play the outcome of both die even when they have discarded their last card.
Ex. Rolling a “RR” or a “T”
A roller may win the game with an exact roll on a betting location.
A player may win the game with a Trump Bet.
Provided that they were successful in matching the original suit or if no “bluff” was called.
